Alpha Natural Horsemanship
A little knowledge goes a long way
WELCOME
train the owner
The Courses are designed for horse trainers, owners and enthusiasts that would like to develop a deeper understanding of equine behavior - including training, cognition, emotions, health and nutrition. Our comprehensive program will improve the management of the horses in your care, enhancing their welfare and producing a stronger human-equine bond. The course provides a hand on, innovative, in-depth study of equine training and behavior, building skills learned. Students go far beyond training; you will learn how to incorporate principles of behavioral science to identify training goals and to develop and evaluate training programs. We will tackle equine behavioral problems in a variety of settings; students are encouraged to share their personal training challenges as well. Additional coursework in management will help you take on a new project or take an existing one to the next level! Your specialized training will allow you to:
-
Create and implement training plans to teach horses new behaviors and to extinguish or reduce unwanted behaviors.
-
Develop a firm understanding of equine social behavior, including dominance, herd structure, reproductive behavior, parental behavior, and courtship.
-
Interpret equine sounds and body language in order to improve human-equine communication.
-
Develop a detailed understanding of equine sensory systems and how horses process information.
-
Identify signs of anxiety and boredom in horses and create an environment that reduces stress.
-
Select the most appropriate equipment and techniques to minimize anxiety during training.
-
Create an effective diet based on an animal’s age, sex, reproductive condition, and activity.
-
Recognize common ailments and their symptoms.
You will achieve a deeper level of understanding than you would develop on your own. This collaboration, coupled with the mentoring each student receives from John, ensures that you receive a very personal education.
All horses need Basic Foundation of Ground & Mounted Training
Regardless of the discipline you ride, there are basic aspects of training that apply and are needed for all horses. For example, if you have a dressage horse, a working cow horse, a pleasure horse, a barrel racer or a trail horse, they all need the same basic or foundation training. I have worked with a lot of dressage horses, a lot of pleaure horses, and a lot of reining cow horses and they are great in the arena unless a strange noise startles them and then many will bolt across the arena or drop a shoulder, turn and dump the rider. Both types of horses need basic training to handle the pressure of something out of the ordinary happening. No matter the discipline, the same basics are needed.
What will you & your horse Learn?
-
The course begins with an Evalution with a diagnostic written report.
-
During the Foundation of Ground training we connect our minds to the exercises and our horses mind to the exercises.
-
During the Foundation of Mounted Training using a proper training plan we mimic the ground exercises and we link our minds to the horse's mind!
